I don’t know about where you are, but here it’s hitting 90+ everyday, and we’re about to get into 100+. Summer is coming, and these are some books that will get you through these next few months.
Great by Sara Benincasa: A super fun retelling, the Hamptons, maybe getting ahead in school (do schools even read The Great Gatsby anymore?) – Great demands that you throw on your best bikini, a giant floppy hat, and sip some pink lemonade (maybe with vodka, if you’re of age) and take over the cabana with the best view.
What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick: Beach town, romance, lobster rolls – What else are you looking for in a summer read? What I Thought Was True is beachy perfection – be on the lookout for a Cassidy Somers of your own. Huntley’s My Life Next Door is also a great summer read!
Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson: Second Chance Summer would also be on this list if it was a recent release AND come with a warning to take frequent dips in the water to disguise the tears. SYBG is plain old summer fun – put on your heart shaped sunglasses and enjoy with an ice cream cone.
Open Road Summer by Emery Lord: Summer is right there in the title, so you know this spot on. Road trips, romance, best friends – You’re going to want to put together the perfect summer playlist and cruise around town, if not across the country, a few times.
Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas: Semi (okay not at all) recent. This was my favorite book of Summer 2013 and if you haven’t read it yet, pick it up and put on your floaties because you’re about to be swept away.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone Series by Laini Taylor: If you’re going away for a week and feel like a binge read, this is the one you NEED. Maybe not the summery-est, but definitely worth making space in your luggage.
On the Fence by Kasie West: Out July 1! Read it on the way to sports camp or wherever the summer takes you!
